Skin Rejuvenation Q & A
What is photo rejuvenation?
During a photo rejuvenation session, intense pulsed light is aimed at skin flaws to eradicate them. These treatments are used to improve the appearance of numerous skin issues, such as: the effects of rosacea, broken capillaries, sun damage, pigmentation problems and scars. For the best results, most patients undergo 3-5 treatments. Annual follow-up treatments may be recommended, as well.
What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a rejuvenation skin procedure that involves puncturing tiny holes in the skin’s surface to stimulate the production of collagen, a process known as collagen induction, which revitalizes the skin. Microneedling can tighten loose, improve texture, and reduce hyperpigmentation and scars. Microneedling is mostly used on the face, but can be used on most parts of the body. Numbing cream is applied 30 minutes ahead of treatment, making the procedure painless. There is also no downtime. Normal activities can be resumed immediately, but patients should stay out of the sun for the day and wear sunscreen for several weeks following it.
What laser rejuvenation options are there?
Dr. Patel uses a variety of lasers to erase wrinkles, fine lines and skin discoloration. The laser removes the top, damaged layer of skin, revealing a fresh, more youthful-looking layer below.
What is PRP rejuvenation?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) rejuvenation is a new procedure that uses a healing formula derived from a patient’s own blood, often in conjunction with filler or laser treatments. PRP is made by drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood, placing it in a sterilized tube that is then spun in a machine called a centrifuge to separate out the platelets. Platelets are known for their healing properties and ability to stimulate the body’s production of collagen. The PRP substance is then injected into the patient’s wrinkles to produce a smoother, more youthful appearance. It can also be used to improve skin discoloration, enlarged pores and elasticity.
