Laser Q & A
What does laser hair removal entail?
Laser hair removal is an extremely popular and effective, non-invasive technique that uses highly concentrated light to penetrate the skin and damage hair follicles, preventing future hair growth. Dr. Patel uses the latest hair removal laser, called the Emvera Diolux. It contains an advanced cooling system to prevent burning and minimize pain. The Emvera is also incredibly fast; an entire back can be treated in about ten minutes. Laser hair removal only affects actively growing hair follicles, so typically between 2-6 sessions are required to provide a major reduction in hair. Laser hair removal can be used on most areas of the face and body. Among the most commonly treated are: the bikini area, chest, face (particularly the upper lip and chip), neck and shoulders.
What laser tattoo removal entail?
If you’re looking to have a tattoo removed, you are not alone. According to a recent Harris Poll survey, 1 in 8 people who have tattoos regret getting one. Fortunately, laser technology allows for safe removal. In fact, Dr. Patel has been removing tattoos for over 20 years. She uses the system which emits concentrated light energy in short pulses that pass through the skin and absorb tattoo pigment. The laser breaks the pigment into smaller particles, which are metabolized or excreted by the body. Dr. Patel also takes advantage of the Zimmer cooling air system or lidocaine to eliminate pain. Most patients say the sensation is mild, similar to the snap of a rubber band. Multiple treatments may be needed. How many depends on the size, color, type of ink used, and age of the tattoo.
How does Dr. Patel remedy varicose veins?
Those swollen, twisted blue veins that most often occur on the legs, may or may not, cause pain or lead to other more serious conditions. Still, many people don’t like how they look. If that’s the case, Dr. Patel offers a number of approaches to remove varicose veins. Among the most popular is a non-invasive laser technique, in which strong bursts of light are pulsed through the skin and onto the vein, causing it to slowly fade and disappear, without the use of incisions or needles.
