Physical Exams Q & A
Why are routine medical check-ups important?
Patients of all ages should visit the doctor for a routine physical every year. In fact, most health insurance providers cover it, because it’s smart preventative health. During an annual check up, Dr. Patel may discover issues or potential issues before symptoms arise. In doing so, she can prescribe life style changes and/or medications to remedy issues before they escalate. Early diagnosis and treatment is advantageous for most conditions and illnesses. In addition, a routine exam measures – and provides a record of – each patient’s vital statistics, includes age-required screenings and vaccinations. It also enables patient and doctor to develop an ongoing relationship.
What occurs during a physical exam?
Your height, weight and blood pressure will be measured, your medical history reviewed and you’ll be asked about any new concerns or questions regarding your health. Next, Dr. Patel will conduct a thorough physical examination, including listening to your heart, checking your organs, ears, eyes and throat. Depending on your age, you will receive required vaccines, and recommended blood tests and other screenings.
How should I prepare for my physical exam?
Before your annual exam, it can be helpful to make a list of any questions you have, as well as, any changes in your health or lifestyle. Make sure too to bring a list of all medications that you are currently taking, including over-the-counter vitamins or supplement
What does an immigration exam entail?
Dr. Patel is certified by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services
(USCIS) to preform medical exams required for immigration. In addition to recording your complete medical history and conducting a physical exam, this appointment includes a blood test for HIV and Syphilis (required for everyone over age 15), a tuberculosis skin test and all required vaccinations and tests. All patients should bring proof of all previously received immunizations, and a valid photo ID or Passport.
